What it can do

01

Six narrative modes

Choose the lens through which your life is told: Full autobiography, Short bio, Professional summary, Family story, Travel chronicle, or Highlights reel. Each mode organizes and emphasizes your events differently — the same life, six distinct narratives.

02

Six voices and tones

Set the emotional register: Reflective, Warm, Professional, Poetic, Factual, or Inspirational. Combine any mode with any tone — a Warm family story reads very differently from a Factual one, even from the same events.

Short, medium, or long — your call

Short (~500 words) is a punchy summary perfect for a bio or an introduction. Medium (~1,500 words) covers the main arc. Long (3,000+ words) goes deep, including details, context, and reflection. Change the length without regenerating from scratch.

Refine with natural language

Don't like a section? Just tell the AI what to change. "Make the career section shorter." "Sound less formal." "Add more about the move to Austin." Each refinement is applied without rewriting sections you're happy with.

Grounded in your actual life — never hallucinated

My Story is structurally incapable of inventing events. Every sentence is grounded in the events you've logged. If you haven't recorded it, it won't appear. No guesses, no embellishments, no filling in gaps with fiction. What you see is what happened — as you recorded it.

Real reasons people use this

The Birthday Gift Giver
Creating a parent's autobiography as a milestone birthday gift
I logged my dad's life over a few evenings of conversations, then generated a 2,000-word story in his voice. He cried reading it.
The Self-Reflector
Processing a difficult decade by reading it as a coherent narrative
Seeing my 30s written out as a story — not just events in a list — made patterns visible that I'd been living through without seeing.
The Sabbatical-Taker
Writing a bio for a portfolio, pitch deck, or professional reintroduction
I needed a "professional summary" version of my life to pitch a new direction. LifeCharted produced it in minutes from my actual career events.
The Family Archivist
Preserving an elderly relative's story before it's lost
My grandmother has early-stage dementia. Getting her story into LifeCharted and generating a narrative while she could still review it was one of the most important things I've done.

Common questions

Will AI make up events or fill in gaps with fiction?

No, and this is by design. My Story is grounded exclusively in the events you've logged in LifeCharted. The AI cannot invent a job you didn't log, a trip you didn't add, or a date you didn't record. If the information isn't in your timeline, it won't appear in your story. No guessing, no embellishment, no fiction.

Who owns the story that's generated?

You do — entirely. The story is generated from your data, and the output is yours to use however you like: print it, email it, publish it, gift it. LifeCharted makes no claim on content generated from your personal data.

Is my data used to train AI models?

No. LifeCharted uses the Claude API from Anthropic, and your data is processed only to generate your story. It is not stored by Anthropic for training purposes under our agreement. We never use personal life data to train models — ours or anyone else's.

Can I generate a story in languages other than English?

My Story currently generates in English. Multilingual support is on our roadmap, with priority for Spanish, French, and German. Join the waitlist and let us know which languages matter to you — it directly influences the order we build them.

How many events do I need before generating a story?

There's no hard minimum, but the quality of the story scales with your data. With 5–10 meaningful events, you'll get a skeletal narrative. With 25+ events spanning multiple domains, the story becomes genuinely rich and worth sharing. The more of your life you've logged, the better the output.

Can someone tell this was written by AI?

Modern AI detection tools are unreliable, and My Story generates prose that reads naturally. That said, we don't encourage misrepresenting AI-generated content as purely human-written in contexts where it matters (academic submission, journalism, etc.). For personal use, gifting, and family archiving, it's a draft you can edit and make entirely your own.

Can I edit the story after it's generated?

Yes. The generated story is plain text that you can edit directly in the LifeCharted editor. You can also use the refinement loop to ask the AI to revise specific sections. For Premium users, past versions are saved so you can always go back.

Is my story private?

Yes — private by default. Generated stories are visible only to you. With Premium, you can create a shareable link to a specific version, but sharing is always explicit and opt-in. No story is ever visible to other users or shared without your deliberate action.

Your life deserves to be kept.
