What happens when I first sign up?

The short setup steps between creating an account and reaching your timeline.

Setup: name and birth date

The first screen asks for your first name and your birth date. The birth date is not decoration — it anchors the start of your timeline and lets the app place your events against your own age.

You also confirm that you are 18 or older and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy on this screen.

Why 18 and over

LifeCharted is for adults only. If the birth date you enter puts you under 18, the account cannot be opened and you will see a page explaining that.

If your birthday falls in the current month of your eighteenth year, you will be asked for the exact day so the check can be made correctly.

The AI disclaimer

Next you acknowledge how the AI features behave: they generate narrative from what you enter, they can get things wrong, and their output is for personal reflection rather than medical, legal, or professional advice.

This is a one-time acknowledgment. You may be asked again if the disclaimer is materially updated later.

Then: your first timeline

With setup done you land in the app, where new accounts are offered the "Chart my life" guided flow. Take it or choose "Explore First" — both are covered in the guided setup article.

Rules of Thumb

  • Enter your real birth year — a placeholder makes every age-relative feature wrong from then on.
  • You can change your display name and photo later from your profile; the setup screen is not your only chance.

Common Mistakes

  • Guessing a birth year to get through the form quickly, then wondering why the timeline starts in the wrong place.
