How does the "Chart my life" guided setup work?

A short guided flow that turns a few plain-language answers into your starting timeline.

What it is

"Chart my life" is the fastest way to get a real timeline on day one. It asks a few short questions in plain language, then uses AI to turn your answers into events you can review before anything is saved.

New accounts are offered this flow automatically. If you would rather look around first, choose "Explore First" — you will be reminded the next time you sign in, and you can start it any time from the "Chart my life" button in the top toolbar.

The four core questions

The flow starts with four anchor questions that build the backbone of your timeline: where your story begins, the homes you have lived in, your school or training chapters, and your main work or career chapters.

Answer in whatever detail you like — a sentence or two per question is plenty. Rough years like "around 2008" or "until college" are enough for the AI to place events.

Adding more areas

After the core questions you can add optional areas: People, Trips & Travel, Turning Points, Pets, Milestones, and an "Anything else" catch-all for chapters the earlier questions missed.

Pick only the ones that matter to you. You can always add more later through normal event entry.

Review and finish

Before anything is saved, the flow shows the events it extracted so you can remove or fix any that are wrong. When you finish, your starting timeline is built and you land in the app ready to refine it.

You can answer by voice instead of typing — tap the mic and speak your answer the same way you would in Voice Quick Add.

Rules of Thumb

  • Spend your effort on the four core questions first — they create the structure everything else hangs on.
  • Approximate dates are fine; the goal is a readable backbone, not perfect records.
  • Review the extracted events before finishing — fixing a date or title now is faster than later.

Common Mistakes

  • Trying to capture every detail in the guided flow instead of treating it as a fast first draft.
  • Skipping the review step and missing an event that landed in the wrong category or year.
  • Dismissing the flow without realizing you can restart it from the "Chart my life" button later.
