How does the Life Interview work?

An AI guides you through six life chapters, extracting and structuring events as you talk.

What it is

The Life Interview is an AI-guided conversation that walks you through six chapters of your life: Roots, Education, Work, Places, People, and Milestones.

The AI asks one focused question at a time. As you answer, it extracts structured events — title, category, dates, and location — and shows them as confirmation cards in real time. Nothing is saved until you approve each card.

How to start

In the main app, look for the Interview button in the top toolbar (next to Quick Add). Tap it to open the interview panel. You can begin with any chapter and navigate between them freely.

Sessions are saved automatically so you can pick up where you left off, even on a different device.

Voice mode

Enable voice mode to have the AI read its questions aloud and to speak your replies instead of typing. Voice mode uses the same transcription engine as Voice Quick Add.

It works best in a quiet environment with a clear microphone signal.

Free vs Premium

Free accounts get 20 conversation turns per session. Premium accounts get unlimited turns.

You can always complete a chapter and return later in a new session — partial sessions are preserved.

Sensitive topics

If your answers touch on health, loss, grief, trauma, or legal matters, the AI responds with appropriate care before extracting any events.

Events from sensitive topics are automatically marked as sensitive and excluded from AI-generated stories and insights by default. You can change this on any individual event afterward.

Rules of Thumb

  • Answer naturally — you do not need to use any special phrasing or format.
  • Approximate dates are fine. "Sometime in my 30s" or "around 2005" is enough for the AI to place an event.
  • You can describe multiple things in one reply — the AI will separate them into individual events.
  • Complete one chapter before moving to the next for the cleanest extraction.

Common Mistakes

  • Skipping the confirmation cards — always review extracted events before approving, especially dates and categories.
  • Navigating away mid-chapter without completing it — the session is saved but open threads may be lost.
  • Expecting the AI to remember details from a previous session — each session starts fresh from your saved timeline context.
