Account and Subscription

How do I delete my account?

Permanent deletion from your profile page — what it removes and what to do first.

Export first

Deletion cannot be undone and there is no recovery window. If there is any chance you will want your history later, take a JSON export before you start — it takes seconds and restores into a new account.

How to delete

Open your profile page and scroll to the delete section at the bottom. You will be asked to type your email address to confirm, which is there to make an irreversible action deliberate.

What gets removed

Deleting your account cancels any active subscription immediately, erases your events, people, relationships, eras, insights, and saved stories, deletes your uploaded photos from storage, and removes the sign-in account itself.

Any share links you created stop working, because the content behind them no longer exists.

If you only want to stop paying

You do not need to delete anything to stop being billed. Cancelling your subscription from the Subscription section moves you to the Free plan at the end of the billing period and keeps all of your data. See the subscription article.

Rules of Thumb

  • Export before you delete — this is the one step you cannot go back and take later.
  • Cancel rather than delete if the goal is simply to stop paying.

Common Mistakes

  • Deleting the account to end a subscription, and losing the timeline along with it.
  • Assuming support can restore a deleted account — the data is genuinely gone.
