Adding Events

What if I only know an approximate date?

Estimates are better than leaving important events out.

Approximate dates are okay

A year or month-and-year is often enough to place an important chapter on the timeline.

The goal is not perfect archival precision. The goal is a readable, meaningful life map.

Rules of Thumb

  • Use the closest year you remember.
  • Add the month only if it helps the story.
  • Do not leave major life chapters out because the exact date is missing.

Common Mistakes

  • Skipping important events because the day is unknown.
  • Inventing false precision instead of using an honest approximation.
