How do I manage people and relationships?
Add the people who shaped your story, set relationship types, and connect them to your events.
The People tab
Open the People tab from the main navigation. This is where you manage all the people connected to your life story — family, friends, colleagues, mentors, and anyone else who shaped your chapters.
Adding a person
Tap Add Person and fill in their name, relationship type, and any additional details. LifeCharted supports 28 relationship types across family, social, and professional categories — from Spouse and Parent to Mentor and Colleague.
Connecting people to events
When creating or editing an event, you can tag people from your People list in the event form. Tagged people appear in the event detail and are available as context for AI-generated stories and insights.
Relationship categories on the timeline
Relationships are grouped into categories (Family, Social, Professional) that appear as filter options in the timeline sidebar. Hiding a category removes those connections from the timeline view without deleting them.
Rules of Thumb
- Add people when they are central to a major life chapter — not just mentioned in passing.
- Use the relationship type that best describes how you knew them during the relevant period of your life.
Common Mistakes
- Adding a person without connecting them to any events — they exist in the list but have no timeline context.
- Using a generic relationship type when a more specific one exists — the 28 types cover most situations.

How do privacy and visibility settings work?
Every event has a visibility level. Lane defaults handle most decisions automatically — you only need to override when something is an exception.
