How do I connect Google Photos?
Link your Google Photos library so LifeCharted can auto-place photos on your timeline by date.
Connecting your Google account
Go to Settings → Integrations and tap Connect Google Photos. You will be redirected to Google to authorize access, then returned to LifeCharted. The connection is one-time — you only need to authorize it once.
Importing photos
Once connected, open the Photos tab or the import flow and select photos from your Google library. LifeCharted reads the EXIF date embedded in each photo and uses it to find the closest matching event on your timeline.
Photos without EXIF data (screenshots, edited images) will not have an auto-matched date. You can still place them manually on any event.
What happens after import
Imported photos are attached to matching events and appear in the Photos tab. They are stored in your LifeCharted photo library — they do not sync back to Google Photos.
You can reorder photos within an event by dragging them in the event editor.
Disconnecting
To remove the connection, go to Settings → Integrations and tap Disconnect. This removes the OAuth link but does not delete any photos already imported.
Rules of Thumb
- Import photos after your timeline backbone is in place — EXIF matching works best when events already cover the relevant dates.
- Check the matched event before confirming each import — EXIF dates are usually accurate, but edited or screenshotted images may show the wrong date.
Common Mistakes
- Expecting all Google Photos to auto-match — only photos with valid EXIF date metadata are matched automatically.
- Importing before building any events — the auto-match has nothing to attach to.
