How do I generate My Story?

Before you start

My Story unlocks once your timeline has at least five events. Until then the Story view tells you how many more moments to add — the AI needs something to work from before a narrative is worth generating.

Any event you have marked "Exclude from AI narratives" is left out of every generation. So are the events behind a sensitivity category, unless you have deliberately re-included them.

Choose a story type

Open Story settings and pick the kind of story you want. There are six:

• Full Life Story — the complete arc across all your chapters.
• Short Bio — a concise two-to-three paragraph summary.
• Professional — education, career, and achievements.
• Family Story — relationships, home, and family milestones.
• Travel Story — the places you have lived and explored.
• Highlights — pivotal moments and turning points.
• Free accounts can generate the Full Life Story; the other five types require Premium.

Tone, length, and perspective

All six tones are available on every plan: Reflective, Warm, Professional, Poetic, Factual, and Inspirational. Tone changes the voice, not the facts.

Length comes in Short (2–3 paragraphs), Medium (4–5), and Long (6–8). Short and Medium are available on all plans; Long-form requires Premium.

Perspective lets you choose first person ("I moved to Austin") or third person ("They moved to Austin"), and third person offers They/Them, She/Her, or He/Him.

Narrowing what goes in

The setup panel has an "Include categories" picker so you can restrict a story to certain parts of your life — useful when a Professional story should not wander into health or pets.

Two optional free-text fields shape the result further: Narrative emphasis, and Instructions (up to 500 characters) for things like "Focus on my career pivot in 2019" or "Don't mention early jobs."

Generate, refine, save

The story streams in as it is written. What you see is a draft until you save it — saving is also where you can give the version a name so you can find it again.

Use Refine to adjust a story you already have. Type an instruction, or tap a quick prompt like Shorter, More vivid, More concise, Focus on relationships, or Add turning points. Your recent refine prompts are kept so you can reuse them.

You can also edit the text directly. Refining and editing work on the current draft; neither one replaces your saved versions.

If you add events after generating, Story flags itself as out of date so you know a regeneration would pick up the new material.

Version history (Premium)

Premium accounts get version history: every saved story is kept, and you can rename, restore, or delete any of them. Free accounts keep up to 3 saved versions, Premium keeps up to 50.

Monthly limits

Generating a story counts against a monthly quota. Free accounts get 3 generations and 5 refinements per calendar month; Premium accounts get 40 generations and 100 refinements. Both reset on the first of the month.

Editing the text by hand costs nothing, so small wording fixes are better done in the editor than by burning a refinement.

Getting your story out

Copy text works on every plan and puts the whole story on your clipboard. Export PDF opens a print-formatted version and requires Premium.

Rules of Thumb

• Fill in descriptions on your major events before generating — the AI can only work with what your timeline says.
• Change the tone before you spend a refinement on it; tone is a setting, not something you need to ask for.
• Save a version you like before regenerating, or you will lose it.
• Use Instructions for anything you want left out — it is more reliable than hoping the AI skips it.

Common Mistakes

• Regenerating repeatedly to fix a phrase, when editing the text directly is free and instant.
• Expecting events marked "Exclude from AI narratives" to appear — they are deliberately withheld from every generation.
• Generating at five events and judging the feature on it; stories get markedly better around 20–30 well-described events.
• Forgetting to save before switching story types, which discards the unsaved draft.
